Do you want to create amazing cards with images, voice and text?? Overcome speech limitations by creating cards and then touching them to build sentences. In this CATI Confabs 06, we are going to demonstrate a solution called Expressia life for, which is an advanced AAC solution for persons facing speech limitations. The trainers and care-givers are also encouraged to participate.

EMPOWER 2019 follows on the success of EMPOWER 2018 that was held in Oct 2018. It is being organized to bring together all stakeholders in the assistive technology sector. This includes AT researchers, AT industries, users and user organizations, special educators, inclusive designers, entrepreneurs as well as policymakers engaged in different ways with the issues involved in the creation, production and dissemination of assistive technology solutions. This four-day the event would see active participation of all stakeholders not only to discuss current solutions but also to seed ideas to work on future solutions.

The event will bring together the various stakeholders in the AT value chain: from researchers and product developers to users who are people with disability. We hope that providing a common platform will encourage a conversation between them to address the challenges in building an AT ecosystem in India. We are working alongside local IEEE volunteers as well as partnering with other governmental agencies such as Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) and Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) to ensure that we reach many people and the event targets are achieved. A public exhibit of AT products with stalls by different organizations will let the participants immerse in the world of AT.

The exhibition can change the outlook of people about assistive devices. Designers, architects and people in general can help create a more inclusive and accessible society by paying attention to some very basic details. Accessible offices, parks, shopping malls, schools, buildings, washrooms and toilets, these are some basic changes that we need to make around us so that people with disabilities can also move around and become part of the mainstream.

The ICMR, under support of WHO-SEARO and in association with The Cradle, organised a workshop of stakeholders having experts from various field for constrictive deliberations and for deriving modalities to make the visions of WHO workable from state and community perspective. As the promotion of access to assistive products to people in need has diverse domains-legislation/policy framework, production of context-friendly appliances and services, provision of delivery system and financial support, and manpower training for manufacturing and maintenance etc, experts from various fields were invited.

Microsoft India today hosted its first-ever Accessibility Summit (#ThinkAccessAbility) in the country to enhance technology access for people with disabilities. The summit aimed at demonstrating the business value of accessible technology for organizations, the need for a collaborative effort as well as assessing policy’s role in creating an accessible India. The summit brought together leaders from the government, non-profit organizations, filmmakers, entrepreneurs and budding technologists to present their views and best practices around accessibility and technology’s potential in aiding inclusion.

The fifth edition of Techshare India – 2 day accessibility & assistive technology conference and exhibition, held on 3rd and 4th March 2016, at the India Habitat Center, New Delhi was a major success. Techshare India 2016 – an initiative of BarrierBreak was organized in partnership with National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP) and Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB),UK.
